Written 3 years ago on the day reserved to celebrate and commemorate the life and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
I took a moment today to get out of the norm. While reflecting on MLK’s dream, the fulfilled and unfulfilled, I felt the need to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. After a couple of weeks of frigid temperatures, ice, and snow, it’s a warm 65 degrees and sunny with about 6 clouds in the sky…just enough for asthetic diversity. Upon the many sights were a group of teenagers of diverse backgrounds playing a friendly game of touch football to my left. To my right, a young, mixed couple sitting under a picnic area with their young offspring. To add to this, it is all taking part in an area that would have been marked, “WHITES ONLY”. Perhaps some of the dream is realized…small victories are still victories.
